Pre-update update

My last day in England from my hols! Just found soe time to update my blog and was going to plough straight in to writing about my two weeks back home, but remembered I had a few gaps from Oz to fill in (since I plan to print out this blog and keep it as a diary of my trip I want to include everything!)

So there’s just two things I want to mention really: my trips to Canberra and Melbourne.

Whilst attempting to figure out my rugby tips for the work contest I was asking my colleagues for help and Jarrad said if I want to see a real game of sport I should come and watch an Aussie Rules match with him (or as they call it, AFL – Aussie footy league). A while later it turns out his team were playing in Canberra, so he remembers his promise and we head off to Canberra for the day to watch the game. I was pretty esxcited a) having not been to another city in Oz before and b) having never seen an AFL game before, even on TV! The drive up was nice too, getting to see some of the NSW landscape which seems to go on forever and is parched and dry.

I didn’t really see any of Canberra, but from what I’ve heard that’s no big loss! I did get into the game though, cheering when they scored a goal, but not really sure when to shout ‘ball’! The game is kind of like basketall in that it goes backwards and forwards across the pitch with loads of points scored, and is split into four quaters – and is played by lots of fit men ;) Funniest moment was when the ref got knocked clean out by one of the players – he was floored and had to be stretchered off!

I also went to visit Dave in Melbourne for a weekend. Had a fantastic weekend wandering the streets of Melbourne – well, doing the pub crawl of Melbourne! I even beat him in a game of pool, after telling him how appallingly me and Alice had played the week before. He said he’s been sharked….I personally think the two pints I’d had perviously boosted my game enormously!

Melbourne is a nice city – I could see that through the constant rain! Full of arty stuff everywhere and colourful buildings, as well as mixed up with old English styles taken right out of London. I could see it would be a nice place to live.

Then I just had one week left before heading back to England….
